PLN

Have you ever wondered how to expand your Personal Learning Network (PLN) as an educator? Our connected world allows educators across the globe to connect in unique ways using technology and the Internet. Educators can connect with other educators, classrooms can connect with one another and educators can connect with politicians, scientists and historians to deepen learning. The Internet allows our enormous world to feel smaller. In this post, we will explore three tools that you can use to improve your PLN.

Twitter is a social network used by billions of people all over the world. Years before I used Twitter for personal reasons and never thought to use it as an educator. On Twitter educators can participate in educational chats, follow all sorts of people including other educators and community leaders. Check out this video on how to use Twitter to strengthen your PLN.

The main benefit Diigo is the user's ability to collect websites in one location and organize them into specific groups to view whenever they would like. The user can also share websites with others through groups. Highlights allow the user to mark important information and view when needed. I could see a middle or high school student doing research for a class and using Diigo to help them organize their resources. Also, an educator could create a private group for a class and have students reflect on specific articles or websites with one another. This would provide a safe and effective way for a group of students to collaborate with one another. Check out this video about how to use Diigo to research and organize by Vicki Davis.

Instagram is another surprising way to connect with other educators. Seesaw is one of my favorite apps and I have discovered that Seesaw and many other bloggers and educators have Instagrams that can be followed. Here is Seesaw's Instagram account. As you can see they repost a lot of ideas from teachers around the world using Seesaw. Following others on Instagram and Twitter, can freshen your perspective as an educator and allow you to use more innovative ideas in your classroom.

If you are interested in learning more about Seesaw. Check out this educational chat happening on Twitter about Seesaw this Thursday! #seesawchat I am excited to join the conversation and learn more about how I can more effectively use Seesaw in my classroom.
