Flipgrid Tutorial - Google Search Tips

School is right around the corner and that means time for lots and lots of professional development. One of my favorite professional development topics is how to better incorporate technology in my classroom. This Adobe Spark website was created with the intention of being shared with the staff at my school. I took a leap of faith and e-mailed it to my new principal.

I have a feeling Flipgrid will be one of my favorite websites to use with my 2nd graders this fall. I am excited to report back on how it goes using Flipgrid and how my 2nd graders handled the social media website.

Google... oh Google. You surprise me daily. It is unbelievable to uncover new features on a daily basis. Did you know Google has a built in calculator? A easy way to search for movies? Or check on your flight? There is a way to only search for PDFs, PowerPoints or Word Documents! How about there is a way to refine your search and discover information about a person during a specific time period. Here's a Google Slide about how to use this feature.

There are so many ways we can all be using more technology and the technology we use on a regular basis more effectively. It is incredible to think that we just know a fraction of what is out there. Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest have been my go to social media sites that help me gain new insights into this technology driven world. My goal is to always find tools that can help me be a more effective teacher and allow my students to express themselves in creative and productive ways. I have learned so many incredible tools to use.

YouTube + Google Tools

YouTube can be such a daunting resource, especially for teachers. Often times I feel overwhelmed with the amount of videos available on YouTube and find myself nervous my students will see something inappropriate. My co-workers and I often have difficulties remembering which videos we used for a unit the previous year and find ourselves searching through e-mails trying to find a link. After spending some time researching YouTube, I found a couple of incredible resources that can help teachers more  efficiently  use YouTube to enhance their instruction. Safeshare.tv   is a free online resource to help the user safely watch and share YouTube videos without all of the ads and distractions. Simply copy and paste a YouTube video link into the   SafeShare.tv website . You can even edit the start and stop position of the video. Google Classroom + Google Calendar + Google Keep

Have you ever felt stuck in your classroom? Unable to interact and connect with your students and struggling to figure out the best way to efficiently share documents and have your students turn in work electronically? Google Classroom is the perfect tool for you. Check out this video about Google Classroom from Flipped Classroom Tutorials. Google classroom is a great way to interact with students electronically. One of my favorite features of Google Classroom is the capability to add videos, documents and links under the about tab. Click on "add class materials" and you can add a variety of things. These materials will stay on the about page while the classroom is active. I was able to add some beginning of the year documents, a coin song we watch on a regular basis and a link to one of my favorite classroom social media sites Flip Grid.
